Having transitioned from stealth mode, Chorology is now offering a state-of-the-art data governance solution powered by patented Deep AI technology. With a $9 million Series-A investment and Fortune 500 clients, the company is well-positioned in the market. Backed by well-resourced investors, seasoned advisors, and a veteran management team, Chorology is poised for significant growth, aiming to resolve the critical pain points of enterprise data compliance, security, and privacy.
Two years ago, during a roundtable discussion with 14 CISOs and CIOs, Chorology’s co-founders identified a critical issue: organizations didn’t know where their sensitive data resided. This revelation led Tarique Mustafa to conceptualize a robust AI-based solution. Tarique, a gifted Pakistani prodigy with advanced degrees from USC, realized that existing compliance solutions lacked a “compliance technology engine.” Alongside his team, Tarique developed unique Deep AI algorithms to automate data discovery, classification, mapping, and compliance enforcement.
By avoiding institutional VC funding, Tarique and his team took the necessary time to develop their holistic solution, resulting in four blocking patents within four months. This effort culminated in the launch of Chorology.ai Enterprise, a Deep AI-based data compliance and security posture management engine (CAPE), poised to transform enterprise data management.
For innovation, Tarique looks up to Steve Jobs of Apple for his ability to “think different” and create products that were widely appreciated by customers. Jobs’s uncanny ability to innovate and target the right needs resonates with Chorology’s mission.
For invention, Tarique admires IBM for its trust and groundbreaking research. IBM’s innovations, from AI-powered robot microscopes to predictive analytics in sports, exemplify world-class invention and impact. These qualities inspire Chorology’s approach to solving complex data compliance challenges.
In four years, Chorology aspires to be acknowledged for defining and commercializing a new paradigm in intelligent automation for data compliance and security posture enforcement. Their goal is to address one of the most challenging problems in the compliance industry: automating data discovery, classification, mapping, and security posture enforcement. The Deep AI-based Chorology.ai platform aims to lower the total cost of ownership for sensitive data and prepare enterprises for future compliance mandates. With deployment in hundreds of Fortune 1000 enterprises, Chorology is on the path to becoming a leading player in data governance.
Chorology, a new player in the data governance space, has officially launched its AI-driven data governance platform, designed to transform how enterprises manage their data. The startup recently emerged from stealth with a $9 million Series A investment and a roster of Fortune 500 clients.
The field of data governance, which involves ensuring the security, privacy, and compliance of data through various policies, procedures, and technologies, has long been known for its complexity and resource demands. Chorology aims to disrupt this status quo by harnessing artificial intelligence.
The platform offers a suite of AI features that automate critical data governance tasks. For instance, its automated data discovery tool simplifies the challenging process of identifying all organizational data. Additionally, Chorology’s Intelligent Data Classification and Data Mapping tools provide insights into data flow, crucial for effective governance strategies.
Chorology introduces a comprehensive solution for compliance and security posture management, suitable for both on-premises and cloud-based enterprise data. The platform promises to address the shortcomings of existing solutions by offering end-to-end security assessments and a thorough view of organizational threats. Its user-friendly design ensures minimal learning overhead, keeping operational costs low.
As the first platform of its kind, Chorology provides a detailed understanding of data sprawl without extensive pre-processing or machine learning overheads. It protects sensitive data from internal and external threats while ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, all while significantly reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprise data management.
Key features of the Chorology platform include the Auto-Data Discovery Engine, which offers exceptional accuracy, the versatile Auto-Data Classification Engine, and the sophisticated Auto-Data Mapping Engine. Together, these features create a robust data security risk and compliance posture management framework, enhancing enterprise data governance.
“Chorology’s data compliance and posture enforcement solution (CAPE) allows enterprises to intelligently automate their DSPM engine, discovering and classifying sensitive structured and unstructured data in both on-premises and cloud repositories. CAPE’s Deep-AI engine bridges the gap between regulatory mandates and practical compliance implementation, protecting vast ecosystems of sensitive data at a lower TCO and setting a new industry benchmark,” said Sam Phillips, former CISO for Bank of America.
“The widening gap between compliance mandates and practical implementation poses a significant challenge. Chorology’s CAPE solution helps enterprises achieve lower TCO while future-proofing their organizations for growth and regulatory changes,” said Vas Kodali, former EVP for Wells Fargo.
Mike Matchett, Principal Analyst at Small World Big Data, emphasized, “CISOs face challenges in identifying relevant data across various storage systems. Chorology’s solution fills these gaps, offering comprehensive data assessments and proactive protection strategies, aligning with market demands for automated solutions in the face of regulatory complexities and cyber threats.”
Chris Steffen, VP of Research at Enterprise Management Associates, added, “Chorology’s AI-powered platform is a game-changer, saving significant time and effort. CHOROLOGY.ai today emerged from stealth to apply a domain-specific artificial intelligence (AI) model to data governance.
The company has developed a domain-specific language model capable of discovering all the types of data to make it simpler to achieve compliance, ensure data privacy and improve security posture enforcement.
Using an auto-data discovery engine coupled with an auto-data classification and an auto-data mapping engine the domain-specific language model eliminates the need to pre-process data to apply governance and compliance policies.
Company CEO/CTO Tarique Mustafa said those capabilities collectively enable organizations to significantly reduce the total cost of data governance.
At the same time, the domain-specific language model also enables cybersecurity and IT teams to leverage natural language queries in a way that reduces the overall level of expertise required to govern data, he added. That approach, in effect, will make it easier for organizations of all sizes to meet a wide range of compliance mandates, noted Mustafa.
As more data privacy regulations such as the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) go into effect, just about every organization will need to find a more efficient approach to governing data, said Mustafa. Rather than trying to leverage a large language model (LLM) to achieve that goal, CHOROLOGY.ai opted to build a domain-specific language model for governing data that it then extends using multiple engines for discovery, classification and mapping, he explained.
There is little doubt that generative AI will eventually transform how data is governed and secured, but exactly how that will be accomplished isn’t entirely clear. CHOROLOGY.ai is betting that given the sensitivity of the data being governed organizations will prefer to rely on a domain-specific language model specifically trained to manage data.
Regardless of approach, it’s clear the amount of data being created every day exceeds the ability of most organizations to effectively manage it. The only way to cost-effectively govern and secure data will be to rely more on various forms of AI. Unfortunately, organizations should also assume that cybercriminals will also use AI in the near future to discover where their most sensitive data can be most easily found. The only way to effectively thwart those efforts will be to apply data governance controls as data in near real-time as data is being created.
The challenge is finding the funding needed to acquire the various AI technologies required to achieve that goal. It might be several years before all the tools and platforms used by an organization to secure data are infused with AI capabilities. Many organizations, however, might be able to cost-justify those upgrades by rationalizing existing tools and platforms, or by spending less on platforms that primarily secure network perimeters — that as applications continue to evolve are increasingly dissolving.
No matter how data security evolves there will never be enough expertise available to manage it without the aid of AI. All that remains to be resolved now is how to effectively apply it.
